Upon entering high school this year, my little sister has a tough decision to make. She has never participated in any kind of sport programs before except just this summer when she went a two-month tennis camp. But because playing at least one sport is so important in applying to colleges, my parents and I want her to learn one of these potential sports, then stick to it so that she can get into varsity: tennis, soccer, and field hockey.
I reckon she could succeed in one of them if she tried hard enough considering the facts that she can run pretty fast, can get quite motivated when it comes to winning games, and has all the physical possibilities of becoming a decent player (she's 5'6'' and skinny.) Also, why couldn't she when I'm in varsity soccer and no hereditary factor seems to restrain her?
I really want her to discover and use her potential to the fullest. Moreover, get into varsity for one of those sports and preferably be made a captain so that her application would look even better alongside her academic achievements.
Please don't comment rudely and be frank in your opinions about which sport my sister should stick to or has most potential in. Any personal experiences with one or all of those sports is welcome (for example, how challenging the training is, how much effort should be poured into personal/school practices, etc.) Any advice, of course, is greatly welcome, too.

I would tell her to stick with tennis. Tennis is a challenge but with about a years worth of practice most people are good enough to make the team, and actually win. It's not easy. She is going to have to hit millions of balls. But she will get it. Get her some lessons maybe once a week. At home, have her do some jump rope, for quick feet. And have her repeatedly practice the motions of her backhands and forehands. Serving is the tricky part which will take the longest time. Its all about the snap of the wrist. Tennis is an old sport that would look good on college applications. Good luck to her!

She should pick the sport, not you or your parents. She won't enjoy it half as much if it was picked for her. Let her try each sport and pick which one she has the most interest in. She's more likely to stick to it that way.

I know sports are important but so are clubs and leadership programs/student government, etc... the key is to be well-balanced.

I'd go with soccer. It's the most demanding, but the rewards are far higher in my opinion. My sister did soccer in high school, and if I remember right, she had practice like four days a week for two hours. It is really fun once you get into shape.

i played soccer and i loved it, but junior year i switched to cross country which was the best decisionnnn ever.

but if shes played tennis before id stick with that, but its really up to her. whichever she is best at, most comfortable with, and enjoys most. they are all good sports to play

i think you should try soccer it is not a really easy sport as many people think but if you practice you get good at it , i think that one would be better for her because she can run pretty fast
