In terms of height, weight, body proportions etc. I'm trying to figure out if I should try out :)
Any tips anybody has picked up over the years?
I'm 5 foot 1, about 90 pounds, and a sophomore. Is that bad? What other track events would I be decent at?

you'r perfect for the pole vault. you just need to be able to lift all your body weight so practice your pull ups. try the discus and shot-put. it's fun and you can help your team earn points in field events.

Well, my daughter's boyfriend is a pole-vaulter (very successful, too) and I would describe him as extremely lean. But he also has a lot of upper-body strength. Guess that goes hand-in-hand with the phrase "fat doesn't fly!"

At your height and weight, you also sound quite lean. I don't honestly know whether height factors into it.

Pole vaulting depends more on technique (as opposed to speed or strength) than some other track events, so it's hard to say what else you might be good at. Definitely ask your track coach ... he or she will probably be able to recommend several other events you might want to compete in ... Good Luck!
