Hi there! Most people who are serious about strength training and know what they're talking about will never recommend a Bowflex gym. Mainly quality and user safety top the list of complaints, as evidenced by the company's product recall of 420,000 units in 2004 (see http://walking.about.com/cs/gearvarious/a/bowflex013004.htm ). It seems that Bowflex infomercial hype exceeds product effectiveness, especially when you start comparing it to well crafted, quality engineered "selectable" all-in-one gyms at http://www.a2zfit.com/homegyms.htm and free-weight equipment at http://www.a2zfit.com/freewght.htm from a responsible manufacturer like BodyCraft.
With BodyCraft's lifetime warranties on all strength training equipment you can't go wrong... Bowflex can't match that! Check out the BodyCraft videos for both the XPress Pro at http://www.a2zfit.com/bcxprspro.htm and the Jones Machine at http://www.a2zfit.com/bcjones.htm . We're sure you'll agree these units meet or exceed any Bowflex units for price, quality, and user effectiveness. If you have any questions, please let us know. We're here to help!

BOWFLEX is a great machine to get started working out on. The BOWFLEX uses very hard rubber rods for weight training. It will help you gain strength but up to a certain point. If you want to progress onto a more challenging workout or even "better" workout then free weights will be more efficient. In using free weights your stabilizer muscles are being used. That is the smaller muscles in your body that helps your balance and also help with weight training. Basically it depends on how far you want to go with your fitness training. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Bowflex machines are a great tool to help you get to your goal. You most likely will have better success with a Bowflex than without. It will give you a lot more variety than almost all other machines or just free weights.
The variety is what will keep you going. Being able to switch up your workouts every week for a year and still have different workouts to do.
If you are doing the same thing day in day out, 90% of the people exercising will burn out and not stick with it. You will have a much better chance for success with a machine with a lot of variety.
I also know a lot of hard core body builders that have a Bowflex or something with resistance, especially progressive resistance to be alot easier on their joints. Especially the most common things like bodybuilders with rotator cuff injuries, knees, hips etc...
I hope this helps.....

If you have someone to work out with who knows what he is doing then free weights because you are working alot more muscles when you are lifting correctly, if you are going to lift by yourself at home or something then bowflex because it makes you lift with the correct motions
