I'm planning on trying out for an all star cheerleading team in May.
I have all of my tumbling stuff down, but I'm not sure if I'm better suited for a base or a flyer. I'm 5'3' 110 pounds and I'm 14. I'm really flexible, but I know it's a big gym so I probably wont be the most flexible or smallest so I think I'll be a base,
I just wanted to know other peoples opinions.
Thanks:)

I looked at this question, and wondered if I wrote it myself!(:

I'm also fourteen, and I'm five three, and weigh about the same as you do.

I have the same problem. I mean, I think being a flyer would be so fun, but it depends on the person, not just the age weight and height.

Are you stronger, or more flexible?

Are you up for the challenge of being tossed in the air, or would you rather have the pressure of holding someone up?

Would you rather be on the ground tumbling, or in the air doing stunts?

Just ask yourself these questions, and you'll be good(:

I myself have never been a flyer, but always thought of it as a fun thing to do.

But there's so many more tinier girls than me,

I think basing is more my thing.

Well, to confuse you a little more my sister's 5'2.5'' tall and she's a backspot!

But you're pretty small so you have the body to be a flyer. In fact, we're almost exactly the same size and I've been flying for 10 years. If you're able to pull up, stay tight, and do your job in the air you'll most likely stay a flyer. You will probably get the opportunity to try both, so do each position and see which fits you better.

If you're trying out for a senior age team you'd probably end up being a flyer. Good luck, and keep on stretching if you want to be a flyer.

You are perfect for a flyer position, however do not think that just because you are light it will mean you are going to be a flyer. A good flyer MUST bec ale to hold up her own weight in a hang drill. The stronger the flyer, the better she is. You need to work on holding up your own weight because later on down the line if you finally decide to go into collegiate cheerleading like me, it will come so much easier. The stronger you are, the happier the base, otherwise people are not going to want to stunt with you anymore.

It's really good that you are flexible, but do you think you can handle basket tosses? I do those, and they're scary at times, but very difficult. I'm still in awe that I as picked as a basket flyer.

Good luck!

First of all, DONT YOU DARE DROP HER! She could get hurt easily (like the neck and back). If she gets hurt too bad, then you just lost a flyer, and it looks like your team can't aford that. Sounds like Kasey is a good flyer. It also sounds like Lacie just wants to be center of attention, ya know so she can say "Hey Look at me, I'm a flyer!!!". Put the team before your b****y friend Lacie. I really don't see the problem. Forget about Lacie, she's being stupid and selfish. To become a better flyer, you need to work on building leg, stomach, and butt muscle. Try super hard to become more flexible. Ask your coach for pointers, or ask Kasey. Good luck chica!

your pretty small but that's not all coaches look for in a flyer so it could go either way some coaches switch off so you may be both

you would probably be a great flyer and if the other girls are smaller you should be a base!
