Why in your opinion is football the most famous sport in the world? It pretty much dominates every other sport when it comes to media coverage and I always wonder why?

I have always thought that the fact that it takes little in equipment and facilities in order to get started and anyone with a ball can get some sort of game going at any park I think that has a lot to do with the popularity of "football" worldwide

Soccer obviously has alot more international appeal than most sports played here in America, but this is slowly changing (ie. NFL branching out to other countries). Soccer has a long history of being played by the biggest stars in many countries, so this adds to the excitement (think Pele, Beckham, etc.). Also, since soccer is played in nearly every country, it adds to the excitement that national teams often play other national teams, whereas many sports played in the US are very introverted. Perhaps there may be more of a sense of national pride when countries play others. During the World Cup last year, many many kids from Bulgaria came into my bar, wearing the team jerseys and holding flags. They were just fanatical about their team.

In the end I think the fans are just more passionate about their team when it comes to playing other countries--especially in Europe.

EVERYBODY plays it. In poor countries its the only accessible sport because U just need a ball or something round to play soccer , no other equipment.

Brazil is kinda poor , but lots of good players came out because they played soccer all the time when they were young instead of going to school and stuff....

so ACCESSIBLE , that why

It requires the most skill, fitness and team-working.
