When Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's record back in the day, there was an asterisk by it. The season was longer, so some people felt that Maris hadn't actually set a new "record".
But why do you ask that. The asterisk isn't there because Bonds is black, it's there because he cheated. There was never one by Hammerin' Hank's record, and he was black.

Roger Maris -- His 61 homerun record for a season was considered for a long time to be a "*" record because his season had more games than Ruth's 60 HR season.
